What you should know:
While we go to every efffort, including guiding you through the stripping process in advance of your arrival, to having volunteers on hand to help you through your projects, the possibility exists that you may not complete your project by the end of the retreat. Every person learns at their own pace. If you are unable to complete your project by the end of the weekend, you will be added to my virtual subscription plan for 30 days to get the support you need from home. I also have a private group where you can post your questions, tag me in a post, and I will demonstrate the skills you need to get through any troubleshooting you may need. All free of charge.
Upholstery is a very rigorous form of manual labor and does take a toll on your hands and body. If you have health issues that will be exacerbated by standing all day and pulling and lifting heavy things, this may not be the right weekend for you.
What you should bring:
Please be prepared with clothing and shoes that will be protective in the classroom. Layers for the weather, hard soled shoes to protect your feet from staples, gloves, masks, and goggles to protect your hands and face from sharp objects and furniture nastiness.
If you have specialty materials you would like to purchase in advance, please let me know and I will have them ready.
Total Beginners
You can do this with absolutely NO experience. You’ll learn to measure, sew, and apply all of your materials. If there are areas you are uncomfortable with learning due to complexity, we can work to simplify the construction of your project to help you build confidence in your skills. You don’t have to learn everything at once.
Furniture Flippers
If you’re already into furniture flipping, but haven’t explored the upholstery side, it’s time to think about adding it to your skillset! There is a severe need for more skilled trades people in this industry, and there’s plenty of work out here for all of us. We’ll talk shop while you’re here and about how it can add to your revenue.
DIY'ers Leveling Up
My sustainability girlies know, they just don’t make em like they used to. Buying new has it’s own ethical concerns, but on top of that, modern furniture is designed for obsolescence. It starts to fail well within the first 5 years. You are investing in the future and in our planet when you find more use for old things. This weekend is a fun opportunity to explore your creative side and make yourself something nice. Maybe even explore it professionally?
Sewists & Quilters Wanting a New Challenge
You would be surprised just how adjacent sewing and quilting is to this craft. The attention to detail, and tailoring a style to fit a shapely frame. It’s every bit as fun as all of those things. Better yet, bring your quilts and create something with a personal touch.
People Who Want a Fun, Hands-On Weekend with Friends
You don’t even have to be INTO upholstery and furniture restoration to enjoy a weekend like this. My design studio is the perfect creative getaway for you and a friend to enjoy a unique experience where you don’t have to worry about preparing meals or finding touristy things to do. It’s genuinely a very fun experience. You should try it 😉
